Will Badie recorded a double-double finishing
with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for Ephrata I. Brian
Ingraham also had a double-double and went for 18 points and grabbed
a game high 16 rebounds. Drew Karschner scored 14 of his 18 points
in the second half. John Rios had 12 points and 9 assists. Carlos
Vargas chipped in with 5 points.
Dan Tangert connected on 6 three-pointers to
lead First United with a game-high 23 points. Josh Hermalik had 18
points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Seth Sigman finished with 12 points
and Matt Woods had 10 points and 9 boards. John Mellish chipped in
with 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
The game went back and forth in the beginning
with several lead changes early on. The game was tied 24-24 before
First United went on a 6-2 run to take a 30-26 lead with 5:00
minutes remaining in the first half. Dan Tangert hit a couple
threes towards the end of the first half to push the lead to 8
points for First United at the break. First United scored on the
first possession of the second half to take their biggest lead of
the game at 40-30. However a 12-2 run by Ephrata I tied the game at
42-42 at the 15:00 minute mark. Two free throws by Drew Karschner
gave Ephrata I the lead for good (44-42) with 14:33 remaining. By
the 10:00 minute mark of the second half, Ephrata I had opened up
their own 10-point lead (54-44) and capped off a 34-11 run to take
their biggest lead of the game 64-49 with 7:23 remaining. However,
First United went on a 14-4 run over the next 5:23, and cut the
deficit to 5-points (68-63) with 2:00 minutes to go in the game.
First United was down 73-66 when they got fouled on a three-point
attempt with 38 seconds left, however only converted on 1 of the 3
foul shots and did not score again after that, as Ephrata I held on
for the 8-point victory.
